Before you use a vanity address for real money
A vanity address is not more secure than a random one — it is a random one that you kept because you liked how it looked. The danger is not the address. The danger is address poisoning: once people recognise your wallet by its first few characters, an attacker can generate a lookalike with the same ones and slip it into your transaction history, hoping you copy the wrong one. Never copy an address from a block explorer's history. Compare the whole string, not the ends.
The full explanation, including how a vanity generator lost Wintermute $160 million, is under Risks.
